Role Purpose

MODEC is looking for Lead Structure Designer to be based in our new Kuala Lumpur office. This role is to lead and supervise a team of Designers to provide designs and drawings related to discipline of the assigned projects. This includes getting Engineering Contractors to do detailed modeling, designs and drawings to support the relevant discipline. Monitors technical content and drawing activities, and ensure compliance with the company's engineering standards

Key Accountabilities

  • Leads and manages a team of Designers to provide basic designs and drawings for the assigned projects. Engages Engineering Contractors to do detailed modelling, designs and drawings based on preliminary designs/drawings issued by Team.
  • Responsible for leading either a discipline design team assigned to a particular area of the facility or overall leadership of the discipline design team for the project.
    Assigns work to each of Designer and monitors their progress, ensures that they deliver according to specifications and on time according to schedule. Quality shall be checked by the Lead/Design Engineers & Project Engineer of the assigned project.
  • Plans and recommends the Designer resources required for a potential project as an input for new project and tenders.
  • Prepares specifications as inputs in RFQs to secure services of Engineering Contractors to perform detailed modeling, designs and drawings; evaluates bids submitted and recommends the selection of Engineering Contractors to Project Lead Engineer.
  • Participates in technical evaluations for all decisions that impact safety and be accountable for quality of Company's engineering drawings.
    Ensures all inputs are provided to Engineering Contractors on time.
  • Monitors and with the help of Designers, reviews outputs and progress of the Engineering Contractors to ensure that they comply with the specifications and timelines.
  • Vigilantly monitor and review Engineering Contractors' work and progress and assertively deal with them if they do not produce the outputs (models, designs or drawings) according to the specifications or according to schedule.
  • To deal and manage with delays in getting the required information and packages from the vendors supplying the equipment which may delay design work and deliverable of drawings.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Civil / Structural / Mechanical / Ship Building Engineering with at least 12 years relevant working experience
  • Good knowledge of Classification Society Rules and Regulations
  • Demonstrate advance proficiency with AutoCAD and material take-off
  • Knowledge of standard drafting techniques applicable to offshore industry
  • Intermediate AVEVA Everything 3D
  • Advance Autodesk Navisworks Simulate
  • Advance Autodesk Navisworks Freedom
